Eden Noodle Cafe, Dominion Road

Winter makes me crave for spicy things...I don't know why...maybe its the hot, hot, heat that the chilli gives and that special kick in flavours that comforts me.

One of my favourite regular, convenient haunt is the Eden Noodle Cafe on Dominion Road. Must order item: Steamed pork dumplings swimming prettily in szechuan chilli oil...yummmmmm...

Was trying to break out from my regular spicy noodles (I always order the same thing when I go there...) and decided to try the Dan Dan Mien...not as good as I expected it to be...Believe it or not, my ever favourite Dan Dan Mien was enjoyed in Hong Kong at the Cathay Pacific business lounge! If you ever get a chance, try it!!!

My regular spicy noodle was ordered by my friend instead...which he didn't share! :P Looks good doesn't it? Always reminds me of spicy pan mee back home but with more soup *slurppppppppppppps*

Snack Healthy: Fruit & Nut

Snacking is unavoidable in winter. Trying to snack on healthy stuff is an even  harder task!

We have a feijoa tree in the garden (which has stopped bearing fruit after I started this post that has been delayed a few weeks hahaha)and its nice to pick fruit out of the garden and just snack away...now I wish I had a mango, pineapple, durian trees in the garden....

What I found on wikipedia on fejioa (for the benefit of my friend, Karen, who hasn't heard of feijoa!):

The Feijoa (pronounced /feɪˈʒoʊ.ə/, /feɪˈdʒoʊ.ə/,[1] or /feɪˈhoʊ.ə/[2]) (Feijoa sellowiana), also known as Pineapple Guava, Guavasteen (and sometimes mistakenly as Freijoa or Frijoa), is an evergreen shrub or small tree, 1–7 metres (3.3–23 ft) in height. The plant originates from the highlands of southern Brazil and parts of Colombia, Uruguay, and northern Argentina

Large quantities of the fruit are grown in New Zealand, where it is a popular garden tree and the fruit commonly is available in season. The New Zealand season runs from March to June. (hence, me missing the season hahaha)

On another (delayed) note, the boyf collected some walnuts during his trip to Hicks Bay on the East Cape - officially love walnuts now - coffee-like flavour with the nutty bite (makes sense?) :)

Gotta get up to speed with my other posts! Been eating lots of good food lately but haven't had time to blog about them! ;)

State of Origin: Game 1 Dinner

State of Origin is a momentous occasion for Rugby League fans as it a series of games between the best players from New South Wales (blues) and Queensland (Red).

So is there any reason not to have an awesome pork roast with some of your mates? (No, you don't have to answer that LOL)

The prep work...

Pumpkin from the garden...I only eat pumpkins when they are roasted

Stuffed and ready to gooooo

My task: turn on the oven HAHAHAHA

Starters as we waited for the main to cook...only the hummus was homemade, the rest store bought (yes, even the wines LOL)

Finally, dinner is served...

I will never be able to say no to pork crackling om nom nom...

My greens which were brown: roasted vegetables...

Hello porky goodness!

Stuffed with mushrooms

Accompanied with apple sauce and gravyyyyyyy...

Was it a good night? Hear, hear to that...! *chin chin* A balanced group of Blue a& Red supporters!

Pre-Gardening Brunch...

Due to the lack of places that that serve good Eggs Benedict brunch, we decided to cook up a feed before I was told I was suppose to work on the veggie garden!!!

Poached eggs, ham on bread with roasted vegetables and fresh tomato...

Runny eggs...the breakfast for champions (I think by now everyone knows I have an obsession for runny eggs!)

My gardening adventure can be read here. xxx

I caved...

So yeah, I thought I was not gonna miss Malaysian food too much *as if* but I MISS IT SUPER LOTS!!! Well, it didn't help that I was stuffing my face before I left the country (which reminds me, I need to do a makan round-up on that big episode)...so there is still more to eat!
Because it's winter, I think I tend to have a bigger craving for spicy and soupy stuff...On my 2nd night in Kiwiland, I decided I needed a chilli pan mee fix...

Made some pork bone soup with spinach as well...pretty tasty I must say...

Looking back at it, I think I want some more! *tummy grumbles mumbles* And if you need to know, YES, I made it - fried the minced pork and ikan bilis, poached the egg, boiled the noodles and voila! All ingredients bought from the Asian store down the road...so no worries about that...Although, the chili was a shrimp chili paste I brought from home...LOL xxx

Summer Fruit in winter...

The boyf froze some fresh blueberries (from summer) so I can have them in winter...yay! Blueberries are one of my favourite berries in town...have to wait for summer to get more...Teaming it with chocolate cake and cream is the way to go xxx

The Haute Food Co., Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur

I was introduced to Haute Food Co. by MichYap...we got sick and tired of having mamak for lunch so we decided to treat ourselves here...

Fuss-free, tasty cafe food. When you step into this quaint cafe, you feel like you have been transported to a cafe in Auckland (or Melbourne, according to KChoo)

Feeling peckish I decided to start off with the soup of the day: wild mushroom (mushroom soup is always way winner for me). The portion was pretty good size but and was accompanied by some yummy homemade bread (which made me kinda full halfway through...)

I was actually pretty stuffed after my starter and was worried I wouldn't be able to finish my lasagne...but it was so tasty, I polished that too! *surprise surprise*

What everyone else had...

Smoked salmon & rocket fritata

(I think this was) a beef sandwich with rye bread
Dessert: Some kind of toffee/caramel cake

Dessert: A really dreamy Chocolate Dream *drools*

Some kind crumble concoction with vanilla ice-cream (check out the fork: someone couldn't wait for me to finish taking pix!)

The coffee at this cafe was pretty good too...a good place for tea-time.

My second outing @ Haute Food Co.

Beef & Vegetable soup

Sandwiches always seem like a popular choice here - turkey ham sarnie...

Vegetable fritata
